The iPhone 7 (Plus), iPhone 8 (Plus) and iPhone X are indeed waterproof! Do you have a previous type of iPhone? Then it is absolutely not waterproof and it is good to be careful with moisture, although you can use a waterproof iPhone case.
Waterproof or not?
Smartphones, like other devices, are assessed for their dust and water resistance by an IP code, also known as "Ingress Protection Rating" or "International Protection Rating".
In fact, an IP code such as IP67 consists of two separate scores: the first digit represents the dust density (0 to a maximum of 6), the second represents the water resistance (0 to a maximum of 8). The highest possible IP rating is IP68, a score that currently only the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S8 pick up.
How waterproof is the iPhone?
The iPhone 7, 8, the Plus models and the iPhone X have an IP67 rating. This means that they can be used for up to 30 minutes at a maximum depth of 1 meter. If you use the iPhone longer or deeper underwater, there is still a chance of water damage. This has to do with issues such as water pressure.
Extra sure with waterproof covers
Do you want extra security and freedom under water? Then brands like Catalyst and LifeProof offer waterproof covers for almost every iPhone. With these special phone cases you can go underwater for hours and up to 10 meters with your iPhone. Ideal for holidays, for swimming, snorkeling or diving!
